Save Doctors Heart Project.jpg

Project: Save Doctors' Heart

This marks the first initiative in Thailand in which physicians volunteer to care for the hearts of their peers, enabling doctors nationwide to undergo diagnostic evaluations to detect diseases affecting cardiac function.

According to data compiled by the Medical Council, the physician mortality report shows 297 deaths over the past five years (2017–2021). Of these, 60% died from heart disease or unspecified causes (with 10% specifically due to heart disease). Notably, 118 physicians—accounting for 40% of all deaths—died younger than the average life expectancy in Thailand (73 years for men and 77 years for women). The youngest death due to heart disease is at the tender age of 31.

Such losses have a wide impact on our society. One doctor’s life saved is tantamount to saving the lives of thousands more people.

Armed with a highly proficient cardiology center for complex heart disease, a talented pool of Thailand’s leading cardiologists and medical staff, a multidisciplinary team of cardiology technologists, and sophisticated, advanced medical devices, MedPark Hospital recognizes the importance of physician health. In response, the hospital has launched the “Save Doctors’ Heart” initiative to improve and promote the health of Thai physicians so they can stay in robust health to provide care for the Thai populace, as many doctors remain actively involved in clinical practice well beyond the conventional retirement age.

Eligibility Criteria

Thai physicians* aged 35–70 years from all specialties nationwide.

*Licensed modern medicine physicians who hold a valid medical license issued by the Medical Council of Thailand and have no prior history of heart disease.

Program Details: Heart Screening

Diagnostic screening is performed to detect potential heart conditions, such as coronary artery disease, cardiac arrhythmias, and abnormalities in heart muscle contraction, and to provide treatment if any abnormalities are found, at no cost to participating physicians (according to the program’s terms and conditions**).

Participating physicians will receive a basic heart screening program along with a selection of two additional noninvasive cardiac tests. The most appropriate diagnostic tests will be determined by a cardiologist specializing in cardiovascular diseases.

**Treatment decisions are based solely on diagnostic findings and the clinical judgment of MedPark Hospital cardiologists.

Service Pathway

  1. Doctors interested in participating must register through the online registration system, provide preliminary information, and await confirmation.
  2. The staff from the cardiology center will contact the eligible participants to schedule an appointment for consultation and diagnostic evaluation.
  3. On the appointment day, participants must complete the COVID-19 screening questionnaire at the hospital entrance and proceed to the Registration Counter on the G Floor to register as a new patient (for first timers).
  4. Eligible participants undergo heart screening at the cardiology center, 8th Floor, Counter D.
  5. Upon completion, participants will receive their test results along with a consultation from a cardiologist specializing in cardiovascular diseases.

Please refrain from eating and drinking for at least 12 hours before the appointment. Drinking plain water is allowed.
