Body Composition Analysis (DEXA)
Understanding your body
beyond what the eye can see.
Have you ever wondered why your weight remains unchanged, yet your clothes feel tighter? Or why may some individuals weigh more, yet appear lean and energetic? These are because “the number on the scale” alone cannot fully reflect your true health status.
The human body is a complex constellation of fat, muscles, body water, and bone, in intricate balance. Relying solely on body weight may lead to an incomplete understanding and hidden health risks that go unnoticed. Body composition analysis is a valuable tool, offering comprehensive insight into your “body’s internal structure”.
Body composition analysis can evaluate and categorize the body’s key components into two primary domains:
📌 Fat Mass: Quantity and Distribution
While many people are concerned about “body fat,” modern medical understanding emphasizes that the location of fat accumulation may be more clinically relevant than the total amount of fat itself. This analysis provides detailed percentage-based measurements relative to its muscle and bone mass, along with a visual map of fat distribution across the arms, legs, trunk, and hips.
⚠️ The Silent Risk of Visceral Fat
Excess visceral fat (fat stored deep within the abdominal cavity) serves as a critical warning as it is associated strongly with an increased risk of serious chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. This assessment enables early identification of risk, allowing for timely and proactive intervention before disease onset.
📌 Muscle Mass
Muscles serve as the body’s energy-burning engine and its structural support system. This analysis evaluates muscle mass across different regions of the body (including the arms, legs, and trunk), making it particularly beneficial for individuals who require targeted care:
- Older adults: Helps prevent sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss), which can lead to physical frailty, increased risk of falls, and a higher likelihood of complications or adverse drug effects during illness compared to individuals with adequate muscle mass.
- Individuals undergoing weight loss: Prevents muscle loss during weight reduction, ensuring fat is the primary target.
- Athletes and those aiming to build muscle: Provides detailed insights into muscle development in each body region, supporting the design of targeted exercise programs for more effective and measurable results.
Clinical Benefits and Personalized Health Management
The body composition data obtained also enables doctors and specialists to design effective treatment and rehabilitation.
- Nutritional planning: Creating customized dietary plans perfect for weight control or intestinal malabsorption.
- Disease-specific treatment: Helping doctors calculate and adjust medication dosages for conditions, such as cancer or HIV-associated lipodystrophy.
- Rehabilitation and physical therapy: Facilitates targeted planning and monitoring of muscle recovery, ensuring safe and effective rehabilitation outcomes.

How to Prepare Before Your Examination
To ensure the most accurate results (the test takes approximately 20–30 minutes), please follow these instructions:
- Refrain from eating for at least 4 hours before the examination (plain water is permitted).
- Avoid alcohol consumption for at least 48 hours before the test.
