Dr. Sureerat Panyarachun, the Cardiologist with a Motto: “Every patient deserves 100% of their life back.”
In a world where the hands of clocks inexorably march forward, a silent threat known as “Sudden Death” stands ready to snatch one’s final breath in the blink of an eye.

If vital organs like the heart, brain, or lungs malfunction, the vibrant life we know can slip away in a heartbeat. This terrifying reality has prompted many to shift their focus toward preventive healthcare, especially those with cardiovascular diseases, which remain the leading cause of death globally.
Today, MedPark Story introduces the person behind life-saving care: Dr. Sureerat Panyarachun, a cardiologist specializing in cardiac catheterization and intervention. With over 22 years of experience in cardiology and 37 years in medical practice, Dr. Sureerat is a vital pillar of MedPark Hospital. She stands at the forefront of the fight against sudden death, restoring life to her patients.

From Dermatologist to Cardiologist: A Calling to Save Lives
“On the day I heard the announcement, ‘Is there a doctor? A patient needs a cardiologist.’ I was standing right in front of the patient, feeling powerless. In that moment, I knew this wasn’t who I was supposed to be. Deep down, I’m a go-getter. I want to save lives.”
Dr. Sureerat began her medical career in dermatology, one of the most sought-after specialties at the time. But fate unexpectedly beckoned with a pivotal turning point.
During one on-call shift, an urgent announcement called for a cardiologist to resuscitate a critically ill patient in the CCU. She could only stand there, gripped by the anguish of being unable to save the patient’s life with her own hands. Then, a miracle unfolded. A senior physician from the Central Chest Institute of Thailand guided the team over the phone and successfully revived the patient.
That moment was like a divine shining light. An inspiration that kindled the determination to leave behind aesthetics and fully embrace a path where every second can mean life or death as a cardiologist.

“Interventional Cardiologist Only” - Nothing Else
“I witnessed something extraordinary. A patient arrived with an acute myocardial infarction. In that moment, his heart had already stopped—by every definition, he was gone. Then I watched my mentor step in. He adroitly performed percutaneous coronary intervention, opening the occluded artery and inflating a balloon to restore blood flow. And in a short instant, the patient came back to life. In that moment, I told myself I would become an interventional cardiologist.”
In the field of cardiovascular medicine, there are many possible paths, from becoming a general cardiologist to pursuing subspecialty training in electrophysiology. But for Dr. Sureerat, there was only one calling, interventional cardiology.
She went to Australia to pursue advanced training, studying for four years under world-renowned cardiologist Ian Meredith. She then returned to Thailand, bringing with her not only expertise but also a heart filled with devotion to care for Thai patients.

“Zero Risk, 100% Benefit”: In Every Decision, the Patient Must Always Win.
“A great interventional cardiologist must have not only a gentle touch but also the heart of a lion and the eyes of an eagle. Our hands must be steady and precise, capable of turning something as delicate as silk into a sword. Above all, we must carry unwavering courage. No matter what we face, we stand firm—no fear, no hesitation. We must assess every problem with sharp, decisive judgment. Most importantly, in every decision we make, the patient must always benefit. We never take unnecessary risks.”
For her, the definition of a great interventional cardiologist rests upon three core attributes:
- Profound medical knowledge: A rock-solid foundation is non-negotiable; effective treatment cannot exist without intellectual depth.
- Impeccable dexterity and skill: Where every ticking second balances on the edge of life and death.
- Lifelong experience: A continuous process of learning and evolving that never stops.
These three elements are crucial to clinical practice. Ultimately, the paramount priority in any medical treatment is patient safety. With every decision a doctor makes, there must be absolute certainty that it yields a true and meaningful benefit to the patient.
But above all, she believes that “fate” is also a contributing factor.
“Fate does play a role at times. There are moments when outcomes don’t unfold as expected. Despite having done everything right — preparing thoroughly and giving our very best — there may be days that just aren’t ours. That said, such instances are rare, especially when everything has been carefully planned and executed. Still, fate remains one of the invisible hands that can come into play from time to time.”
