40% of people with constipation have dysfunctional strain during defecation. The muscles involved in passing stool do not synchronize correctly with the relaxation of the anal sphincter, medically known as dyssynergic defecation. Apart from typical constipation symptoms, these individuals also have a sensation of incomplete bowel evacuations, requiring excessive
straining.
Treatment for dyssynergic defecation is a biofeedback therapy. The expected outcomes for this approach are that people can pass stools with minimal or no use of enema and without digital evacuation.
Preparation before Biofeedback
- Rectal enema at least 2 hours before the procedure is necessary.
- Patients can receive the enema at home or have it done at MedPark Hospital.
Fasting is not required. - If you have any preexisting health conditions or are taking medications regularly,
it is advisable to consult your doctor. Your doctor may decide to adjust
or discontinue certain medications as necessary.
Patients' conduct and cooperation during Biofeedback
- A small balloon-tipped catheter will be inserted into the rectum
(not deeper than 10 centimeters). The balloon at its tip is for rectal sensation training. - During therapy, patients may sit or lie on their left side
(as determined by the physician and nurse), then engage in breathing and straining
exercises to regulate rectal sensations and anal sphincter control until they can execute the exercises correctly.
Self-care after Biofeedback
- Patients can resume their daily activities as usual after the therapy.
- Following the therapy, patients must continue the prescribed straining exercise at home and monitor their anal sphincter pressures with a manometer for successful outcomes.
This package is not suitable for:
- Individuals who have not yet been diagnosed with dyssynergic defecation.
- Individuals undergoing psychotherapy or mental health treatment.
- Individuals requiring assistance with activities of daily living.
- Individuals with communication disorders or impairments.
- Individuals with low vision who are unable to see screen displays.
- Individuals with neurological conditions such as brain disorders, dementia, or cerebral palsy.
Term and Conditions
- The price is valid from now until 31 December 2024.
- The price includes the doctor, nursing, and hospital service fees and medical procedures as specified.
- The price excludes a medical consultation before treatment.
- The price does not cover additional costs such as medications and/or further tests that a doctor may deem necessary
- The package cannot be combined with any other discount or promotional privileges.
- The screening items cannot be changed or exchanged for cash under all circumstances, including when patients refuse or omit any screening items or sessions in the package.
- The price is valid for Thai nationals or expatriates residing in Thailand only.
