There are four serotypes of dengue viruses. Once a person becomes infected with a particular dengue virus serotype, specific immunity will develop to that serotype but not to others. Therefore, we can become infected with dengue virus more than once.
The Efficacy of the Vaccine
The efficacy of the vaccine against infection by all four serotypes of dengue is 80.2%.
The efficacy of the vaccine in preventing hospitalization is 90.4%.
Recommendation

The vaccine is suitable for individuals aged 4 – 60 years old, with no antibody test required before vaccination.
- The vaccine is safe. Side effects are typically usual, including pain at the injection site, headache, and muscle aches, which usually go away within a few days.
