Exercise Stress Test (Treadmill Stress Test)

Exercise Stress Test (EST) Package: Assess Your Heart During Exercise

Have you ever experienced shortness of breath, chest pain, difficulty breathing, lightheadedness, dizziness, or an irregular heartbeat during physical activity?

Whether you have underlying risk factors or engage in high-intensity exercise, such as training for HYROX, a marathon, or a triathlon, or doing intense weight training, putting your heart under increased physical stress may reveal signs of conditions, such as coronary artery disease or transient myocardial ischemia, that may be undetectable at rest.

What Is an Exercise Stress Test (EST)?

An Exercise Stress Test (EST), also known as a treadmill stress test, evaluates heart function, electrocardiogram (EKG), blood pressure, and heart rate during a graded increase in exercise intensity.

This test allows cardiologists to evaluate whether your coronary arteries can supply sufficient blood and oxygen to the heart muscle when demand increases during exercise. It serves as a vital tool for screening heart conditions and assessing your physical readiness.

Who Should Consider an Exercise Stress Test (EST)?

1. People Who Engage in High-Intensity Exercise or Are Training for HYROX, Marathons, or Triathlons

  • To assess cardiac readiness and safety before increasing training intensity
  • To understand exercise capacity and plan training appropriately and safely

2. People Experiencing Symptoms During Exercise

  • Chest pain, shortness of breath, unusual fatigue, or an irregular heartbeat during physical activity

3. People with Risk Factors for Coronary Artery Disease

  • Those with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, overweight or obesity, or family history of premature coronary artery disease

How to Prepare for an Exercise Stress Test (EST)

  • Wear comfortable exercise clothing and shoes suitable for walking or running on a treadmill.
  • Avoidsmoking or using tobacco products before the test.
  • Avoid tea, coffee, energy drinks, and other caffeinated beverages 24 hours before the test.
  • If you have diabetes, consult your doctor before skipping any meals, and bring your blood glucometer with you.
  • If you have any underlying medical conditions or are taking regular medications, inform your doctor and the medical staff before the test.
  • Ask your doctor whether you need to withhold any medications, such as blood pressure medications or bronchodilators, on the day of the test.
